Meg An Vau,
Relatable, poignant yet concurrently inspirational, I laughed, I wept。 Exactly what my slow to love needed for a sense of urgency to focus on the things that matter。
Tinu Akeredolu,
Ever read a book where, as soon as you flipped over the last page, you went right back to the first page to start re-reading because you just couldn’t get enough? The Urgent Life was that for me, as Bozoma gripped me with her story as she made me feel so deeply invested in her journey from loss to survival。 Beautifully written and hoping we get more books from her in the future。
Qeni,
Bozoma Saint-John's "The Urgent Life" is a powerful heartfelt memoir that explores the intricacies of the human experience。 As the oldest child of Ghanaian immigrants to the US, Bozoma bravely confronts the complexities of identity, race, love, fear, and mental health。Her writing is genuine, intimate, and draws you into her world effortlessly。 You'll connect with her experiences and find yourself reflecting on your own life in a way that's both beautiful and insightful。The audiobook is a real tr Bozoma Saint-John's "The Urgent Life" is a powerful heartfelt memoir that explores the intricacies of the human experience。 As the oldest child of Ghanaian immigrants to the US, Bozoma bravely confronts the complexities of identity, race, love, fear, and mental health。Her writing is genuine, intimate, and draws you into her world effortlessly。 You'll connect with her experiences and find yourself reflecting on your own life in a way that's both beautiful and insightful。The audiobook is a real treat because Bozoma's animated voice adds another layer of emotional depth to her words。 You'll laugh, cry, and be moved by her vulnerability as she takes you on a journey through her life。 The conversations with God in particular are so deep that you'll feel her fear and anxiety as if it were your own。Despite the many challenges Bozoma has faced, she has emerged as a symbol of resilience and strength。 "The Urgent Life" is a must-read + must-hear story unlike any out there right now。 。。。more
Kathleen Gray,
A revealing and emotional memoir which is also hopeful despite the conflict and loss Saint John details。 Know that this is not about her career, except as a part of her larger life, but about her relationship with her husband Peter, a man whose experience and outlook was radically different from her own。 Their interracial relationship was glowing until it wasn't。 Their first child died after she developed preeclampsia but the birth of a second daughter didn't salve their wounds。 And then he was A revealing and emotional memoir which is also hopeful despite the conflict and loss Saint John details。 Know that this is not about her career, except as a part of her larger life, but about her relationship with her husband Peter, a man whose experience and outlook was radically different from her own。 Their interracial relationship was glowing until it wasn't。 Their first child died after she developed preeclampsia but the birth of a second daughter didn't salve their wounds。 And then he was diagnosed with cancer and it all changes。 Saint John finds light in darkness。 This moves around in time but it works。 Thanks to Edelweiss for the ARC。 Very good and thoughtful read。 。。。more
Cari,
I was totally mesmerized by this memoir。 Bozoma Saint John has been an executive for many big companies, but this book doesn't focus on that at all。 The main story surrounds her husband, Peter, and the rare cancer that took his life。 Saint John opens each chapter with a vignette leading up to Peter's death, then flashes back to earlier parts of her life。 The flashbacks are out of timeline order, so the reader is constantly surprised by what Saint John shares。 She's lost others beside her husband I was totally mesmerized by this memoir。 Bozoma Saint John has been an executive for many big companies, but this book doesn't focus on that at all。 The main story surrounds her husband, Peter, and the rare cancer that took his life。 Saint John opens each chapter with a vignette leading up to Peter's death, then flashes back to earlier parts of her life。 The flashbacks are out of timeline order, so the reader is constantly surprised by what Saint John shares。 She's lost others beside her husband, yet has learned many lessons from the tragedies she faced。 I found this book uplifting despite the sad subject matter, and I'll return to Saint John's words when life feels too hard。 。。。more
